“Altar Guild” – Setting the Table for the Lord’s Supper
Do you remember having to set the table when you were a kid? Well, there are people who set the table for the Lord’s Supper, too! We call it “Altar Guild.” There are several teams to cover the Sunday services.
- The Saturday teams set up Holy Communion for the Saturday service, and they clean up as well.
- The team serving at the Sunday 8:00 a.m. service shows up a half hour early to set Holy Communion up before the service. They also clean up and set up for the 10:30 service.
- Those who serve at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. service clean up after it’s over.
- The team members or Pastor Julie are very happy to guide you through the process, though there are instructions (including pictures) in a white ring binder in the Altar Guild room.
If you’d like to serve on one of the Altar Guild teams, please let Parish Secretary Ann Zehms know by calling (920) 432 0308 or by e-mail at office@gracegb.org.
Ushers
Ushers also have an opportunity to welcome visitors and members alike to worship. One of several usher teams is assigned to each of our worship services. Ushers begin serving about a half hour before worship begins. They greet people, hand out bulletins, guide people to communion, and are generally friendly and helpful folks! If you’d like to serve on one of the Usher teams, please let Parish Secretary Ann Zehms know by calling (920) 432 0308 or by e-mail at office@gracegb.org.
Coffee Hour Hosts
Every Sunday between worship services, we invite people to enjoy coffee, juice, snacks, and fellowship. Coffee hour hosts pour the coffee and juice, say “good morning!,” and help clean up when coffee hour is over.
Time commitment: Sundays 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. Training is available. Please e-mail Pastor Julie at pastorjulie@gracegb.org you have any questions.
Readers
Reading the scriptures in worship is a way of giving a new and real voice to the many faithful people who wrote the scriptures thousands of years ago. Readers serve about once a month at a worship service of their choice and help serve Holy Communion. If you’d like to serve as a reader, please let Parish Secretary Ann Zehms know by calling (920) 432 0308 or by e-mail at office@gracegb.org. Ann will include you in the next schedule and notify the pastors so you can receive a few instructions.
Communion Assistants
Jesus said to his disciples, “You give them something to eat!”
Holy Communion is the most important meal of the week! Communion assistants serve about once a month at the worship service hour of their choice. If you’d like to serve as a communion assistant, please let Parish Secretary, Ann Zehms know by calling (920) 432 0308 or by e-mail at office@gracegb.org. Ann will include you in the next schedule and notify the pastors so you can receive a few instructions.
Choir
Our choir includes adults and confirmation age youth. Starting in the fall, our Director John Kopp inspires us to sing special music for many Sundays, some Saturdays, and for most of our holiday worship services. Choir usually takes the summer off. Rehearsals are held on most Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., from most of September through most of May. For information about the next choir rehearsal, please contact the Church Office at (920) 432-0308.
Bell Choir
Our bell choir is directed by Pamela Anderson. Rehearsals are held weekly most Mondays at 4:00 p.m. from most of September through most of May. The bell choir rehearses and plays in the church balcony. For more information about the next rehearsal, please contact the Church Office at (920) 432-0308.
Other Opportunities to Play!
In addition to the two choirs, worship music can also be offered by people who sing solos, play musical instruments, and who form small groups. Our Organist, Denise Zenko has graciously offered to rehearse and accompany musicians of all ages to prepare them to play in worship. Please e-mail Pastor Larry at pastorlarry@gracegb.org if you’d like to share your musical gifts in worship.
